Unlike their carpenter sisters, pavement ants can be found mainly outdoors, on sidewalks or other types of paved areas around houses. It’s easy to recognize their nests since they tend to build small mountains of dirt at the entrance.
Pavement ants are also much smaller, measuring an average of 3 millimeters. These insects are pale brown or darker, and the upper parts of their bodies are usually lighter than the rest.
As for their diet, this type of ants favor sweet and / or fatty foods, which leads them to venture into our kitchens and pantries. Beware! A single colony of pavement ants can have several thousand members!
